Miles Merrill bio: Originally from Chicago, Miles Merrill has been writing and performing slam poetry, hip-hop, monologues, and stories for over 10 years touring packed theatres, schools, pubs, libraries and festivals across Australia and overseas. He recently performed at the Sydney Opera House and co-coordinated the Sydney Poetry Slam 05 and the NSW Poetry Slam 06.
NT – Jack Tinapple
Musician and performer, Jack Tinapple is a lecturer in Contemporary Music at Charles Darwin University and plays in and co-ordinates two original bands: The NEO and Jigsaw Collective. He also teaches in the reputable music program at CDU and manages the Powerfunk recording label. Jack has previously sat on the Arts Grants Board of Arts NT, Board of Darwin Community Arts and the Darwin Fringe Festival Steering Committee. In 2006, Jack completed a Bachelor of Music in classical vocals and flute performance. Jack also has a keen interest and previous practice in Theatre and Film. QLD – David Stavenger
Former Performance Poetry World Cup winner David Stavanger aka Ghostboy will again coordinate the QLD leg of the Australian Poetry Slam 2008. Recognized as one of Australia’s permier performance poets and slam mc/workshop facilitators, his work has been played on Triple J and ABC radio and published overseas alongside the likes of Jeff Buckley and Gil Scott-Heron. Ghostboy has performed at a number of major festivals including Sydney Writers Festival, Brisbane Writers Festival and in 2008 as part of NightWords at the Sydney Opera House. He has ignited the QLD slam scene in recent years, creating the only regular monthly slam event in Queensland via ouTsideRs – Australia’s Premier performance poetry/slam collective.

SA – Daniel Watson
Daniel Watson runs hard edge label Paroxysm Press. He has been publishing, writing, organising gigs, doing festivals, performing spoken word and touring Australia for nearly a decade. Loves poetry and blood sports. Email: paroxysm@paroxysmpress.com

VIC – Emilie-Zoey Baker
Emilie Zoey Baker is a spoken word artist who has written and performed poetry for over 15 years. The winner of the 2006 Nimbin World Performance Poetry Cup, Melbourne Writers Festival Team Slam and the Babble slam two years running, Emilie has also performed at the Night Words Festival at the Sydney Opera House and the Melbourne International Arts Festival, and was recently a guest of the 2009 Festival Voix d’Amériques in Montréal.
She has taken her distinctive, genre-busting style all over Australia performing at the Big Day Out, National Gallery Of Victoria, Next Wave Festival, Mildura Writers Festival and other things that end in the word ‘festival’. She has been heard on Triple J, Radio National, RRR, ZZZ, 2NCR and 774 ABC.
Emilie came third in the Victorian state final of the Australian Poetry Slam ‘08 and is excited to be getting up close and personal with the contenders for the 2009 crown. Her collection, She Wore the Sky on Her Shoulders, is published by Hit and Miss.
WA – Allan Boyd

Allan Boyd has been performing at and organising dynamic poetry arts and music events since 1995. He has performed his “difficult and acerbic words” as featured guest of the Queensland Poetry Festival; Melbourne Overload Poetry Festival; Newcastle This Is Not Art and National Young Writers Festivals; the WA Poetry Festival; Artrage; PIAF; WA Fringe and others.
